2012 is just around the corner… well okay still about six months away. However, I would like to invite you to join me in celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky Institute of Eastern Christian Studies in Ottawa ( http://www.sheptytskyinstitute.ca/ ) on a special Ocean Cruise June 10-17, 2011. This Institute is a special project of the Ukrainian Catholic Bishops of Canada, and is where our Ukrainian Catholic seminarians receive their academic training while living at Holy Spirit Seminary in Ottawa (where I was the rector prior to becoming the Bishop of New Westminster). The Sheptytsky Institute is part of the Theological Faculty at Saint Paul University in Ottawa, and offers both undergraduate and graduate courses for seminarians and the general public in Eastern Christian Studies.
We are celebrating its 25th Anniversary 2011-2012, and we have decided from our Eparchy (Diocese) to do something unique and special. Mrs. Motria Koropecky of Victoria, BC is one of my representatives on the board of the Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky Institute Foundation. She along with Mrs. Myrna Arychuk president of Solaway Travel, Burnaby BC, have come up with this special Cruise starting from Vancouver, British Columbia (ie The Best Place on Earth) to Alaska. On the Cruise, we will have an opportunity to pray together (Divine Liturgy and other prayer services), learn more about the Sheptytsky Institute, enjoy each other’s company while sailing through the most beautiful area of the world!
This will be our fourth Eparchial Pilgrimage coordinated by Mryna and her fantastic team at Solaway Travel since I became bishop four years ago. Our first pilgrimage was to Whitehorse, last year we went to Ukraine and this year we were in Italy. My dear Family and Friends, please consider this unique opportunity in celebrating 25 years of Eastern Christian Education in Canada by joining me on this Cruise!
I look forward to celebrating with you! With assurance of my prayerful best wishes and my Episcopal blessings, I remain,
Sincerely yours in the Lord,
+Ken
Bishop of New Westminster
