A new General Superior of the Congregation of the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate has been elected

On July 18 during the XII General Chapter of the Congregation of the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate, taking place in Rome, Sr. Theresa Slota was elected a new General Superior of the Congregation. Prior to this, Sr. Theresa served as the Provincial Superior of the Province of Christ the King (Canada).

The honorary Head of the meeting, during which the election took place, was Bishop Dionisiy Liakhovych, Apostolic Visitor for the Ukrainians in Italy and Spain.

The General Chapter also elected the Council of the Congregation made up of the following Sisters:

Sr. Marta Kozak, of the Province of the Co-suffering Mother of God (Ukraine) – First Councillor and Vice-General Superior;
Sr. Evfrosynia Lukavyj, of the Province of St. Michael the Archangel (Brazil) – Second Councillor;
Sr. Stefania Jurcenko, of the Province of the Holy Spirit (Slovakia) – Third Councillor;

Sr. Julia Bojchuk, of the Province of St. Joseph (Serbia) – Fourth Councillor.

Biography of Sr. Theresa Slota

Sr. Theresa Slota was born on 15 March 1948 in Toronto where she spent her childhood. On 28 Nov. 1966 she joined the Congregation of the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate. Sister holds BA in psychology and English language from the University of Toronto.

Sr. Theresa worked on missions in London and Lourdes. In the period 1977-1978 she helped Bishop Jeronim Khymij in British Columbia, working as a teacher and later on as a Headmaster in the Sacred Heart School in Yorkton.

From 1992 till 2003 Sister Theresa Slota worked as a secretary and interpreter for the Nuncio in the Apostolic Nunziature in Kyiv. After completion of her mission in 2004, she returned to Canada.

In 2005 Sr. Theresa became a Provincial Councillor and the Superior of the Province House. In August 2009 she was elected as the Provincial Superior of the Province of Christ the King in Canada. Prior to this, she worked as a secretary of the Metropolitan of Winnipeg, Laurence Huculiak.

Sr. Theresa Slota is fluent in English, Ukrainian, Italian and understands Russian and Polish.
